Our goal is simple.
PORTI CLUB's goal is to produce Portuguese Water Dogs with exceptionally kind and gentle temperaments, excellent health, lifetime support, and conformation which upholds the breed standard.
We are dedicated to producing PWD's that anyone would be proud to have as part of their family. We are also happy to say many of the families that have adopted our puppies are kind enough to keep in touch with us often, letting us share in their enjoyment of watching the puppies grow into adults and interact with the people they love. We believe our job doesn't end when the puppies leave our home. Lifetime support is a given!
Full DNA testing for over 200 genetic abnormalities, traits, and health index results for both parents, including PWDCA (Portuguese Water Dog Club of America) reccommended testing for GM-1, JDCM and PRA EORPA, will be available to puppy parents online at Optimal Selection. The PWDCA reccommended testing for Early Onset PRA (EOPRA), and GM1 Gangliosidosis will also be recorded with OFA through Optimal Selection.
All our dogs and pups are fed the highest quality, balanced kibble, ensuring they have the most favorable opportunity to reach optimal health and happiness. Many trips to the vet assure that our dogs are thriving under the very best care. Our puppies are raised in a loving home environment where they are well socialized and exposed to many different sights, smells, and sounds, including but not limited to, vacuum cleaners, noisy children, teenager chaos, constant visitors, the smell of pizza, pizza and more pizza, video games, and even the occasional coyote howl when the windows are open.
They are held, cuddled, talked to, taken outside frequently when they're old enough, and have a good start on being housebroken by the time they're ready for their new homes. Puppies are never sold before they are eight weeks old. We speak with all potential buyers of our puppies at length on the phone to ensure they go to forever homes where they receive the most excellent treatment and have the right surroundings to remain happy and healthy.
We also make every effort to educate a potential owner and help in any way possible to make sure they're getting the right puppy for their family. If we at PORTI CLUB can't provide a puppy that seems to fit the owner, we will happily put you in touch with a reputable breeder who can help. I love staying up to date with new owners and have made some good friends along the way. Each puppy goes home with a 2-year health guarantee, vaccination and worming records, all paperwork necessary for registration with the AKC, links to full DNA reports from Optimal Selection from both parents, a blanket with mom's scent (for easing stress related to a new home and surroundings), information on bringing your new puppy home, and a puppy kit with lots of goodies. All of our puppies go home with full ownership, but this does not include breeding rights.
